I’ve learned over the last few years just how much my journey in life is about voice: how and when to use it; how I want to use it. I’ve realized how important it is for me to learn to stand in my power and speak assertively; how to hold my own so that I don’t give away my power and allow other’s voices to dampen or override mine, without me needing to overpower theirs.
I’m learning how much I want to sing and how challenging it is to get myself to actually do that. It’s surprisingly difficult to allow myself to make “noise”, having experienced childhood trauma and growing up being taught we had to be very quiet. I want to know how to show up in the world with my voice, not just in HeartSong, but at home, at work and in my relationships. I’m learning where, and how, I want to share my voice. I’ve experienced time and again how joyful and healing it is to sing with other women through HeartSong.
Our individual voices need to be heard. When we share our truths, our vulnerability, our joys, our passions, our hurts, our desires and our authenticity; when we come together in our feminine energy with community, supporting and uplifting one another simply by sharing our voices and hearts in song it strengthens and connects us deeply.
Hosting singing circles with women opens up a well of joy, love and connection within me that words do not adequately express. I’m not a trained singer. In fact I’ve only been taking singing lessons throughout 2020. I was not a leader of circles before, I learned through my own participation with the original Women’s Heartsong hosted by the lovely Zoey Wren and training with Heather Houston who has hosted Sisters in Harmony in California for over 15 years. Both are beautiful singers, leaders and souls I feel blessed to know and learn from. I’ve also learned through my experience of hosting my own group of Women’s HeartSong (a Sister’s in Harmony circle) since 2018, both in person and virtually.
We women are hungry for space to gather and feel safe to express our voices and be our authentic, joyful, juicy, feminine selves. There’s something about singing with women that awakens us to our own true nature and aligns us with the powerful feminine essence rising on the planet. It entrains our hearts to the pulse of the earth and attunes our spirits to the ancient lineage of our sister song carriers.
Throughout human history women have gathered in sacred circles to empower each other and transform our lives. We continue in that tradition using the power of song to free our voices and elevate us.
Women’s HeartSong is part of a growing movement of heart-centered women lifting the voice of women on the planet through singing. We are women of varying skill levels, different backgrounds, and various walks of life. We sing songs and chants from around the world that open hearts, uplift spirits, and inspire a movement in consciousness.
If you feel the call to gather with women in circles of harmony, transformation and joy, I hope you’ll find a circle near you, or start a circle in your own community.
